{"id":2217,"date":"2025-02-02T15:09:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-02T15:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/haella.nl\/foundation\/?post_type=news&#038;p=2217"},"modified":"2025-02-11T15:11:16","modified_gmt":"2025-02-11T15:11:16","slug":"aid-at-the-edges-of-europe-what-you-can-do","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/haella.nl\/foundation\/news\/aid-at-the-edges-of-europe-what-you-can-do\/","title":{"rendered":"Aid at the Edges of Europe: What You Can Do"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recent weeks, I have received many questions about how people in the Netherlands can support those in the camps on Lesbos or other places along Europe\u2019s outer borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most important ways to help is by challenging and changing the narrative that all people arriving here\u2014or elsewhere\u2014are criminals or mere fortune seekers (which, for some reason, is framed as something negative?). If this perception shifts, the work of all the organizations here would no longer be needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A single glance at the sea and the camp here is enough to understand that no one embarks on this journey just for the fun of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stories circulating in the Netherlands\u2014often fueled by figures like Trump and others in power\u2014must be countered, with full force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But that won\u2019t change things here overnight. And more importantly: there are urgent needs in the present. We must do what is right and necessary today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Haella supports 25 projects along Europe\u2019s outer borders. These are all small-scale initiatives that provide essential, direct assistance\u2014ranging from legal aid to first aid, from community shelters to food and clothing distribution. This work is largely carried out by volunteers, with only a minimal number of salaried staff. In the coming weeks, I will introduce some of these projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019d like to contribute financially, there are several ways to help:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. <strong>Make a general donation<\/strong> to Haella\u2019s partners working at the edges of Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. <strong>Support a specific project.<\/strong> See all partners here: <a href=\"https:\/\/lnkd.in\/eXfnKGt8\">https:\/\/lnkd.in\/eXfnKGt8<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">3. <strong>Organize an initiative in your own community.<\/strong> Below, you\u2019ll find information on how just one euro can make a tangible difference in the lives of people here in the camp on Lesbos. Fenix, like many other organizations, is doing truly invaluable work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In all cases:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We do not deduct any administrative costs\u2014100% of your donation goes directly to the partner organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As I write this from my balcony overlooking Mytilene, the sun gently awakens the city. Two worlds under the same sun\u2014one, a kind of paradise of warmth, simplicity, kindness, and stillness.
